Hi Mr. Batey - Thank you for inviting the League of Women Voters to Prosser Career Academy, 2148 Long Ave.
The date for our visit is scheduled for Oct. 8, 10-1:30. We’ll plan to arrive 15 minutes early to set up. Please note the new time.
The volunteers who will help students with mail-in registration application forms and online registration are: Maddie Rasz, Sandy Straka, Pat Wilder & Tana Durnbaugh. They have applied to CPS for approval and filled out the required Prosser form
We encourage student helpers to spread the word, identify eligible classmates, help with online registrations and hand out voter information during our visit.
In order to Register, students must be 18 years old or be 18 by the General Election on November 5,
For the Type 275 (mail-in application forms), students will need ONE of the following: EITHER an Illinois Drivers License or ID OR know the last 4 digits of their Social Security number. Mail in forms will be collected by the Registrars and hand delivered to the Chicago Board of Elections office. The applications will be processed and a Voters Card will be mailed to the student. Deadline for Type 275 form is October 8.
Voter registration can also be processed online using a phone or Chrome Book. For that type of registration, students will need BOTH, an Illinois Drivers or State ID AND know the last 4 digits of their Social Security #. If using the online application (and the information provided is correct), the student will receive a confirmation # and the Voter Card will be sent. Deadline for online registration is October 20.
For those who may not have the required identification with them, an informational hand-out about online voting registration will be made available for the student to take home.
I’ll need to know and get help with the following:
2 table & 4 chairs in the Lunchroom. Tana Durnbaugh has a pictorial History of Voting Rights she’ll display.
Parking is available on Long and Grand Ave.
We’ll enter through Door 1 and meet in the main office and then move to Outside the Lunchroom to set up.
Provide in-school announcements and advertisements of our visit and the ID requirements through clubs and organizations I’m attaching a flyer you can use to advertise our visit.
Remind students to bring the required IDs.
Thanks again for inviting us to register student voters at Prosser. Pat

Volunteers will apply for CPS approval and send copies of their IDs to the person you designate.

I’ll need to know and get help with the following:
The time we should arrive and how long we can stay.
2 table & 4 chairs in a public space – lunchroom, hallway or a specified classroom
Parking & school entrance information.
The contact for that day to guide registrars to the registration site
Provide in-school announcements and advertisements of our visit. I have a flyer I’ll send to help advertise.
Student helpers are especially appreciated to get the word out, identify eligible students, help with applications & online student registration and distribute voting information.
Remind students to bring the required IDs.
Good news for 16 & 17 year olds! As of January 1, they are able to apply for PRE-registration with the registration becoming official when they turn 18. The online registration requires that students have an IL Drivers License or State ID PLUS know the last 4 digits of their Social Security #
It sounds complicated, but it's not. After the approvals are completed and the information about ID requirements are publicized, it's like hosting a big party, but a very important one.
Welcome back to the 2024-25 school year! I know it’s a busy time for teachers, staff and administrators but important choices will be made on the November ballot and the League of Women Voters would like to provide voter registration opportunities for your students.
The right to select our governmental leaders and representatives is the most important foundation of our democratic system. In case we haven’t met, my name is Pat Wilder and for the past 8 years I’ve been the League’s coordinator for Chicago high schools who would like our help with voter registration events.
At least two registrars can be made available to visit your school at a convenient date and time and can help with the following;
1- Organize onsite paper voter registration applications, guide online voter registration & deliver mail-in registration forms to the Chicago Board of Elections.
2- Supply registration materials so you can conduct a student to student online registration event in your classrooms
3- Be available for open houses to help your parents register or change their address
Students who will be 18 by November 5, qualify for registration.
NEW!!! ONLINE TEEN VOTER PRE- REGISTRATION APPLICATION AVAILABLE
As of January 1, 16 and 17 year olds are able to apply online for pre-registration. Their registration will become official when they turn 18.
Also, there are plenty of opportunities on Election Day for your students to work at the polls as Judges and get paid for doing it. Just contact the Chicago Board of Elections at https://chicagoelections.gov about how to sign up
Please let me know if you’d like to schedule a visit & I’ll contact you or someone you designate about making arrangements convenient with your school schedule.
Thank you.
