November 8th Run of Show
Purpose of the Day:
To celebrate and educate students on Tito Puente’s legacy and recognize the contributions of Latino veterans who have served their country both in the military and as law enforcement officers.
9:00 AM – 9:30 AM:
Team Arrival and Set-Up
- Ensure all AV equipment is tested and ready, including microphones, speakers, and video projectors.
- Review the schedule with school administrators and confirm any last-minute adjustments.
Assembly 1
9:30 AM – 9:45 AM:
Arrival of Tito Puente Jr., Steven Valezquez, and Marilyn Gomez
- Brief meeting with Marcos A. Torres and school administrators.
- Media, if present, can capture arrival shots.
9:45 AM – 9:50 AM:
Welcome and Introduction
- A representative from the school introduces the speakers and Tito Puente Jr., highlighting the significance of honoring Latino veterans.
9:50 AM – 10:00 AM:
Speeches by Steven Valezquez and Marilyn Gomez
- Steven Valezquez : Shares a 3-5 minute speech on his experience as a Latino Marine Corps veteran and current Chicago Police Department detective.
- Marilyn Gomez: Gives a 3-5 minute speech on her service in the Army and her 30+ years as a Chicago Police officer.
10:00 AM – 10:20 AM:
Presentation by Tito Puente Jr.
- Tito Puente Jr. speaks on his father’s legacy, sharing stories of his Navy service and contributions to music.
10:20 AM – 10:30 AM:
Interactive Music Session
- Tito Puente Jr. plays a brief Puerto Rican tune, inviting students to clap along or participate in some way.
10:30 AM – 10:40 AM:
Q&A with Students
- Students ask questions about the speakers’ lives, the importance of music, or military and police service.
