The March Primary Election will soon be here and the Chicago League of Women Voters would like to help you give students the opportunity to register for it. I’m Pat Wilder & for the past 8 years I’ve been arranging voter registrations events on behalf of the League at Chicago high schools. Please let me know if you or anyone at your school would like me to make arrangements for Registrars to help you create a voter registration event at your school at a convenient date and time between mid-January and mid-February.
In order to vote in the Primary, students must be 18 by the November 5 General Election. Paper application for registration deadline is February 20.
I also have informational materials from the League of Women Voters and the Chicago Board of Elections I’d be happy to send to you.
Would you and other teachers like to arrange an In-School Student to Student Voting Event? I’ll be happy to send an instructional flyer you can copy for your students so they register online with their cell phones, tablets or computers. In order to register online, they must have an IL driver’s license or ID PLUS know the last 4 digits of their social security number. Last day for online registration is March 3, 2024
NEW!!! TEEN VOTER PRE- REGISTRATION LAW IS HERE!
As of January 1, 16 year olds plus will be able to pre-register. Their registration will be held in abeyance and become official when they turn 18. Registration is completed online with the State of Illinois Board of Elections. An IL Drivers License or ID PLUS knowledge of last 4 digits of SS # required.
It’s an exciting time to be a voter. Your students will surely remember their first voting experience. Thank you for encouraging them.
